Cutting slices in succession.-In a meat-slicing machine of the type comprising a meat table moved intermittently over a base by feed mechanism, and a knife guide in which an ordinary hand knife is operable; the feed mechanism comprises a vertically slidable rod k guided in brackets l, l<1> and urged upwardly by a spring m, a pin j carried by the rod k engaging in a slot in a swinging arm h carrying a pawl i which engages a ratchet wheel g by which the feed screw o is operated through bevel gearing. A pin o<2> on the meat table engages the feed screw and a fingerpiece is provided on the spindle f whereby the meat table is retracted from the knife guide. The rod k is provided with pin holes k<1> to receive a pin k<2> which contacts with the bracket l when the rod k is depressed to effect the slice feed, the slice thickness being adjusted by placing the pin k<2> in any suitable hole k<1>. The depression of the rod k, or the operation of the pawl, may be effected by the knife through a suitable lever. The meat clamp comprises uprights p, one of which is serrated at p<2> to engage a pawl p<3> pivoted to the cross-member c and released by a fingerpiece p<5>. The member c is of inverted U.shape in cross-section and is provided with tee:h c<1>. The meat table is provided with upwardly directed teeth q at its forward edge. Adjustable side supports r for the meat are carried on a serrated rod r<1>, the bottom end of each support being composed of apertured lugs which embrace the rod. The supports r may be swung down into an inoperative position, the plate a' of the base a being removable to permit this. The knife guide comprises spaced rods d and a fibre or like cutting roller or block s is provided.
