Abstract

449,555. Cutting and slicing machines. GIUSTI, T., 52, Pembroke Road, Islington, London. Dec. 31, 1934, No. 37324. [Class 5 (i)] [See also Group V] Slabs of material such as ice-cream, butter, or cake, are cut on a table by a vertically reciprocating set of knives comprising a main transverse knife and a number of knives at right angles thereto and adjustably spaced from one another. The material rests upon a board 6 which is slid intermittently over the table I by a member 5 which passes through slots in the table and is connected to spaced chains 7 which are tensioned by spring-loaded jockeys 36 and driven by a ratchet wheel 27 on the shaft 9. The cutting-members comprise a transverse knife 14 and knives 15 at right angles thereto secured in holders 16 slidably adjustable in slots 17. The knife assembly is slidable on vertical posts 12 and, when it is depressed by a pedal 29 which is connected to the knife assembly by rods 33, a roller 21 carried thereby engages an inclined surface 44 on an arm 20 pivoted to a stationary part 19 of the machine and connected by a pin and slot 25, 23 to a pawl-carrying lever 24 which thus imparts a feed movement to the ratchet wheel 27 and the chains 7 during the first part of the descent of the knives. The feed movement is regulated by adjusting the inclined surface 44 by a screw 46, and a stop 40 prevents the arm 20 from swinging too far under its own momentum. To prevent the material from rising with and sticking to the cutters, vertically adjustable scrapers 42, 43 are provided, the scrapers 42 passing between the cutters 15. The member 5 is prevented from passing beneath the cutters by a rod under the table carried by the chain lugs 4 which contacts with a lever 48a which holds the arm 20 against the returning action of the spring 39. The return of the member 5 is effected by lifting the pawl 28 and turning the handle 41. The board 6, as it is pushed over the end of the table 1 is supported by a frame 5b which is slidable in grooves in the table 1 and is pushed forward by the lugs 4. The material is guided at its sides by L-sectioned adjustable guides.
