(Class 28 (ii).] In a slicing-machine having a horizontal or slightly inclined disc knife, a flexible platform is arranged to receive the slices as they are cut. In Fig. 1, the article to be sliced is clamped upon a support 9 which is moved intermittently towards the cutting-plane by a feed screw 8. A frame 5 moves with the support 9 and has downwardly projecting parts which are notched at 20 to receive the ends of one extended bar of a series of bars 1 which are connected together to form a flexible grate. The bars 1 are guided in slots in guide-members 2 which are mounted on parallel pivoted links 3. In operation, the support 9 and frame 5 are reciprocated parallel to the cutting-plane by the usual crank and connecting-rod. The extended bar 1 is secured in the notches 20 of the frame 5 by the ends 19 of a sliding latch 6, so that as the support 9 reciprocates, the grate 1 moves in unison, and moreover, is depressed by one slice-thickness for each feed movement of the support 9. When it is desired to weigh a stack of cut slices, the latch 6 is raised, and the grate 1 pulled towards the hand-wheel. The end bar of the grate is registered with a positioning slot 14, and the grate is pushed down so that upstanding flanges 12 on a scale platform 13 pass between the bars and raise the slices from the grate. A flexible sheet may be used instead of the grate, projections on the scale platform being arranged to pass through holes in the sheet.
