Abstract

471,678. Cutting and slicing vegetables. EVANS, H. March 5, 1936, No. 6626. [Class 5(i)] An apparatus for cutting potatoes and the like into cubes or other shapes comprises a pressing-member a which forces the potato through stationary knives g<1>, g<2> in a removable box g, and horizontally reciprocating knives q which are projected into the box g and subdivide vertical lengths of potato between the stationary knives. The member a and the knives q are actuated by a single lever d pivoted at d<2> to the frame members f the lever having an extension d<3> with a slot d4 forming a lost motion connection to a link m pivoted to the slide p carrying the knives q. The presser a has brackets a<5> having sleeves 2 which slide over guide rods k<5>. The sleeves 2 abut against buffer springs s on the rods k<1> and a spring t facilitates the withdrawal of the knives q. The cutting movement of the knives q occurs as the lever d approaches its uppermost position.
