VEGETABLE SLICING MACHINE Filed April 14, 1928 N.H.MFar1and Z Z I l 16% flbtomm l Patented Bee. 1 24, 19259 HUMAN H. MCFARLAND, 01C L'UBIBUCK, TEXAS VEGETABLE-SLIGING MACHINE Application filed April 14,
The present invention is directed to improvements in slicing machines, and is primarily desi ned for slicing potatoes, but is not necessarily limited to such use.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction and can be convenient .ly clamped to a support and operated to eticctivcly slice a potato, or other vegetable.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character so constructed that the slicing blades can be interchanged in order that various designs of slices can be produced.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which can be clamped upon a table, or other suitable support, the construction being such that the slicing blades will be held elevated in order that the slices will tall into a suitable container placed under the slicing blades.
lVhile the drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the means to meet specific needs and requirements the design may be varied and such other changes in the minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the invention as claimed, without departing from the spirit thereof.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the drawing hereto attached, in which;-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is an end view.
Figure 3 a plan view of the slicing blade board.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on line 44: of Figure 1.
lhe device comprises a standard 1 having its lower end terminating in an arm 2 in which is mounted an adjusting screw 8, there being a clamping arm 4. adjustably mounted on the standard to cooperate with the arm 2 to constitute a clamp for holding the standard on table or the like. It will be of course obvious that upon adjusting the screw 3 the device can be easily and quickly secured to or removed from the support. The arm 4 1928. Serial No. 270,006.
is preferably provided with an adjusting screw 5 in order that the arm can be adjusted upon the standard 1 so that the clamp can be used in connection with tables of different thickness.
Fixed to the standard 1 in any approved manner is a frame 6, said frame having sides 7 provided with grooves 8, and it is in these grooves that the board 9 is slidably engaged, said board having an opening 10 therein which is for the purpose of properly positioning the slicing blades 11. Owing to the presence of the grooves 8 it will be obvious that the board 9 can be conveniently removed and anoth r one substituted therefor, which may have the design of the slicing blades formed difierently, in order that the potato may be sliced in various forms.
A head 12 is employed and has upper and lower cars 13 and 14 provided respectively with guide openings 15 and 16 for slidably engaging the standard 1, said head having an extension 17 upon the lower end of which is provided a plate 18, the purpose of which will be later explained.
A resilient clamp 19 is'engaged with the standard 1 between the cars 13 and 14, said clamp being so constructed that it can be applied after the ears are engaged with the standard 1. The clamp 19 is in the nature of a band and includes spaced ears 20 which are engaged by the clamping bolt 21 which serves to maintain the clamp engaged upon the standard 1, and to one end of the bolt is pivotally connected the lower end of a link 22, the upper end of the link being pivotally connected to the lever 28, said lever being pivotally connected to the head, as at 24. Encircling the standard 1 and interposed between the clamp 19 and upper ear 13 is a coil spring 25 which serves to normally hold the head in its elevated position, the upward movement of the head being limited by the clamp 19 which is in the path of movement of the ear 14c.
Briefly, the operation is as follows:
A potato, or the like, is placed upon the board 9 and immediately over the slicing blades 11, whereupon the lever 23 is grasped and moved downwardly, thus causing the plate 18 to engage the vegetable so that it will be forced upon the slicing blades in order that the complete vegetable will be sliced with one operation. Obviously, when the handle is released the spring 25 will cause the head 12 to move upwardly to permit another potato to be placed under the plate 18 and the operation again completed.
Having thus described the invention, 1 claim:
1. A device of the class described comprising a standard, a frame carried by the standard, a board removably engaging the frame and having slicing blades carried thereby, a head slidably connected with the standard, a clampfixed to the standard, a lever pivotally connected with the head and clamp, and means engaged with the clamp for yieldably holding the head in its inoperative position.
2. A device of the class described comprising a standard, a framefixed to the standard and having its sides provided with grooves, a board removably engaged with the grooves and having slicing blades carried thereby, a head having ears for slidably engaging the standard, said head having a plate carried thereby, a clamp fixed to the standard between the ears, a link pivotally connected with the clamp, a lever pivotally connected with the head and link, and a spring encircling the standard and interposed between the clamp and one of the ears.
3. A device of the class described comprising a standard, a clamp associated with the lower end of the standard for gripping a sup port, a frame carried by the standard and having slicing blades carried thereby, a head including upper and lower ears slida-bly en gaged with the standard, a clamp fixed to the standard between the ears, a spring encircling the standard and interposed between the upper ear and clamp, a link pivotally connected to the clamp, a lever pivotally connected to the head and link, said head having an extension carried thereby, a plate carried by the ex tension for engaging an article resting upon the slicing blades, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature.
