Cutting slices in succession.- In a slicing-machine having a disc-knife driven by an electric motor, the motor is mounted on the casing of the knife with its shaft vertical. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the casing 2 carries a motor 3 having a worm 5 on its vertical shaft 4, meshing with a worm wheel 6 attached to the back of the knife 7. The front of the knife is guarded by a removable casing 8. A fence-plate 10 is adjusted, for slice-thickness adjustment, along guides 11 by a screw 12 and hand-wheel 13. A support 14 having depending pins 15 is arranged in front of the plate 10 and extends throughout the length of the machine. The pins 15 pass through guides 16 and rest on arms 17 on a shaft 18, a torsion spring 19 tending to maintain the support in its uppermost position. The weight of the article being sliced depresses the support 14, and the levers 17 then rest on a stop which closes the electric circuit. By this arrangement the motor rotates as long as the substance is pushed to and fro along the support 14, and stops when the substance is removed. As shown in Fig. 2, the contracted lower part 20 of the casing permits the slicereceiving surface, which may be the platform of a weighing-device, to be placed close to the cutter. A plate 22 prevents the pinching of pieces of meat between the receiving, surface and the casing.
