Abstract

587,662. Hot-water boilers. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., EATON, F. J., and WILLS, D. R. Dec. 22, 1944, No. 2120/46. Divided out of 587,650. [Class 64 (i)] A gas-fired domestic boiler comprises a waterway 1 through which extends a vertical passage of elongated cross-section to form a combustion chamber 6 and flue, a row of gas burners 5 positioned along the lower end of the combustion chamber 6 into which the flames project, a flat refractory core 13 located in the flue to form an annular flue-way, and fins 14 extending into the flue-way from the inner wall of the water-way. The fins are arranged in staggered vertical rows. The burners 5 project upwardly from a burner tube 2 through a narrow slot in a plate 4 which has two rows of air admission holes. The plate 4 and burner tube 2 form a removable unit. The core 13 can be removed through an opening closed by a plate 15. At the back, below the bottom of the chimney 17, is an opening fitted with inclined louvres. Normally air is drawn in through this opening to dilute the products of combustion and reduce the condensation in the chimney. A quadrantshaped baffle facing the opening directs gases through the opening if there is a down-blow in the chimney.
