Abstract

587,643. Two-part couplings. HALL, R. E. Dec., 14, 1944, No. 25144. [Class 38 (i)] In a plug and socket connector, the contacts 7, 17 which project through aligned holes 3, 5 and 13, 15 in the body parts 2, 4, 12, 14, have ridges 9, 18 which compress resilient indiarubber discs 10, 11, 19, 20 into aligned -cavities between the adjacent body parts 2, 4 and 12, 14 thereby forming a fluid tight seal. The parts 2, 4 are held together by a cylindrical housing 1 having a shoulder 1a engaging a projection on the part 2 and a rim 1b bent over the part 4 which has a projection 31 in a recess 30 in the part 2. The parts 12, 14 are similarly held together by a housing 16 having threaded portions 21, 29. Holes 3, 5 and 13, 15, in the parts 2, 4 and 12, 14 respectively, allow free movement of the contacts to compensate for mal-alignment. The plug and socket are locked together by a nut 22 engaging the threads 21, the plug having a non- circular projection 32 entering a socket recess 33. The plug may be secured to a panel 24 by a nut 28, on the thread 29, compressing a sealing gasket 27 in a sealing ring 26 engaged by a shoulder 25 on the housing 16. In Fig. 2 (not shown) only one resilient packing is used. The thickness of the packing may be increased at the holes.
