Abstract

709,047. Two-part couplings. ARLUX. July 30, 1952, [Aug. 1, 1951.] No. 19215/52. Class 38(1). A plug-and-socket connector particularly suitable for safety lamps comprises a plug with a metallic or insulating body 6 containing two insulating bodies 12, 20 separated by distance pieces 28 and an apertured disc 10. A fluid-tight cap i and two fittings 21, 22 having packing glands 7 are provided, the latter serving as leadins for cables for a T-connection: The socket is secured to the lamp by the housing 16 and has an internally-threaded boss 19 integral with the base 15. The plug is pushed into the socket until a bolt 2 engages the boss 19, the bolt then being tightened to draw the connector parts together. The contact pins 23, 24 impinge on the disc 10 causing a stud I formed on it to disengage from a hole 31 in the body 12; a friction device then rotates the disc until it is stopped by the pieces 28 when apertures 30 in the disc allow the pins 23, 24 to enter the body 20 to engage with plug contacts 9. A return spring 5 is provided on the bolt 2 for the disc.
