Abstract

982,649. Two-part couplings. W. R. WARWICK, and V. E. PAYNE. Jan. 28, 1964 [Feb. 14, 1963], No. 3633/64. Heading H2E. An electrical connector comprises a metallic cup 18 filled with mercury 19 which is sealed in the cup by an insulating resilient diaphragm 21. A complementary part (plug) 11, has a long contact pin 13 with a pointed end 15. When the plug 11 and contact are brought together the pointed end 15 pierces the diaphragm 21 and provides electrical contact with the mercury; external circuit terminals being contact pin 13 and connector pin 26. The plug 11 and cup 18 are located in annular recesses such as 27 and 24 respectively in bone 23 of a resilient insulating strip 22.
