Abstract

1,141,938. Two-part couplings. UNITEDCARR Inc. 25 Sept., 1967 [26 Sept., 1966], No. 43557/67. Heading H2E. A contact is retained in a cavity 24 of an insulating body 20 by engagement of a resilient tongue 18 with a shoulder 30 and of a flange 11 with the rim 32 of the cavity, the contact being inserted in the forward end 22 of the cavity and being releasable by a tool 34 also inserted in the cavity forward end 22. A pair of opposed resilient blades 14 on the contact grip a co-operating contact which is received in a rectangular aperture 12 in the flange 11, the blades 14 and stabilizing arms 16 being bent at right angles from a planar base 10 which overlies a channel 26 opening into the cavity for receiving the tool 34. In a modification (Figs. 5-8, not shown) the apertured flange 11 is replaced by two spaced limbs (44) which each engage the rim of the cavity, the resilient tongue (48) being formed by a bent portion of an arm (46) corresponding in position to an arm 16. An insulating body 20 containing several such contacts is mounted on a printed circuit board, terminal tags of the contacts being soldered to the printed circuitry.
