Abstract
1,150,233. Two part couplings. CLARKE & SMITH CONTROLS Ltd. 18 Dec., 1967 [19 Sept., 1966], No. 41695/66. Heading H2E. A terminal blade 12a of an electrical device 10, e.g. a switch, is electrically connected to a conductor 16a on a printed circuit board 14 by a connector 17a comprising a copper plated bifurcated rivet 26a having a conical head 30a, engaging the conductor 16a, and a pair of arms 32a (34a, Fig. 2, not shown) defining an opening which receives the blade 12a, and a copper plated helical spring, encircling the arms, abuts an edge of the blade and the base of the conical head. In order to assemble the connection, the spring 28a is mounted around the rivet 26a with one of the arms outwardly bent to provide a step for the spring and the terminal blade 12a is positioned in the opening with the other arm bent inwardly engaging the edge remote from the spring. The electrical device 10, with a projection 22 located in a slot 24 in the board, is mounted on the board by means of bolts and nuts so that the terminal blade 12a compresses the spring 28a urging the conical head 30a into an aperture in the conductor 16a and a registering aperture 36a in the board 14. The terminal blade 12a is formed with a locating projection (Fig. 3, not shown) which may be used in other applications, e.g. for wrapping and soldering. The electrical device 10 comprises a plurality of terminal blades, such as 12a, which are similarly connected to respective conductors on the printed circuit board 14 (Fig. 2, not shown).
