Abstract

726,213. Two-part couplings. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 4, 1953, No. 3140/53. Class 38 (1). A plug connector is formed in two parts, one, a rear body, comprising a shell 1 having a contact-carrying block 5 moulded thereto, an interrupted groove 7 forming a projection 6, and a screw-threaded part 2 for mounting the plug as a frame. The other part, or front body, comprises a disc 8 having an interrupted annulus 11 on one face, and a tubular part 9 with keyways 13 cut in its inner wall. The two parts are secured together by a ring 12, the front body being orientated in different positions with respect to the rear body by engagement of the projection 6 in the appropriate one of the interruptions 10 in the annulus 11. The keyways 13 are then positioned to engage keys formed on a similarly-constructed socket so that engagement with the correct socket only is possible. A thread 14 on the part 9 of the front body screws into a threaded part of the corresponding socket. The raised annulus 11 may have only one aperture 10 if the contacts 4 are asymmetrically arranged.
