Abstract

796,333. Two-part couplings; plug-boards. AMP, Inc. Feb. 9, 1955 [Feb. 11, 1954], No. 3858/55. Class 38 (1). A contact member for mounting in a fixed plug-board 3 in a calculating-machine comprises a barrel portion 16 secured in an aperture in the plug-board by expanding the rear end thereof and formed integrally with a leaf-spring portion 17 having shoulders 18 which abut the base of a groove 12 in the front face of the board. A tab portion 19 integral with portion 17 is twisted relative to portion 17 so as to form an inclined contact face for engagement by a pin 15 mounted in a movable plug-board 1. The plug-boards are hinged together at one edge and the contacts are engaged by first pivoting board 1 towards board 3 until the contacts are in overlapping, parallel relationship and then sliding board 1 relatively to board 3, the inclined contact face on tab 19 producing a wiping contact engagement. The rear end of the barrel 16 is provided with a tapered tab 20 for engagement by a socket, or a slotted tab for direct connection to a lead may be provided.
