Abstract

973,557. Latch fastenings; stud-and-socket fastenings. AMP Inc. Oct. 14, 1963 [Nov. 7, 1962], No. 40367/63. Headings E2A and E2B. [Also in Division H2] An insulating housing 4 comprises two units 5, 5<SP>1</SP> joined by resilient flanges or struts 10 and 12 in front and resilient stops 24 at the back and which can be flexed to allow bosses 18, 18<SP>1</SP> to enter an aperture in panel P, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), which is less wide than the distance between their extremities. It is retained in place by elastic deformation of the rear faces of stops 24 and the front faces 19, of the bosses, against the panel. Co-operating housing 2 is polarised by web 28 which enters off-centred slot 14 and it is secured by the engagement of the hook portions of latching arms 30 with the rearward ends of struts 10 and 12. When finger pieces 36 are squeezed together arms 30 are rotated with spigots 34, which distort torsionally, thereby opening out their hook portions and enabling housings 2 and 4 to be engaged or disengaged.
