Abstract

851,354. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Sept. 30, 1957 [Aug. 31, 1956], No. 26631/56. Class 38(1) The body of a socket member for a plug and socket connector is made of a resilient material, such as rubber, silicone rubber, or polythene and has bores in which sockets are a water-tight fit, and a ring of low friction material let into a peripheral groove of the body which serves as a bearing for a screw threaded locking collar by which the socket member may be secured to the plug member. Each socket b has two flanges b3 which locate the portion b2 of the socket in a reduced portion d1 of the bore d, the seal at the point d1 being water tight. The wire c also enters the bore through a reduced portion d2 of the bore d to give a seal between the insulation of the wire and the body a the external surface of the body a has a groove e in which two rings f of a material such as brass or other low friction material, each having a flange f1 are pressed. The rings locate and form a bearing for a threaded locking ring g having a hexagon flange gl. The body a has a lip i to give a water tight joint at the face of the socket and lips j are provided round the pins h of the plug h to form seals against the socket body.
