Abstract
586,631. Velocity - modulated tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and FREMLIN, J. H. April 19, 1943, No. 6277. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron-discharge device, wherein a beam of electrons is projected diametrically through a coaxial line resonator and is . reflected back by a reflector 4, means are provided to prevent the electrons reflected back from reaching the source of the beam. In the construction shown, an apertured plate 5 is used for this purpose. The electrons from the cathode 1 are formed by control electrode 2 into a number of pencils, which pass through the apertures in plate 5. An electrostatic field set up between a pair of deflecting plates 6, in conjunction with a magnetic field deflects these pencils so that after reflection they miss the apertures, as shown, and strike the plate. Specification 537,490 is referred to.
