Abstract

662,567. Travelling-wave tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 6, 1950 [April 21, 1949], No. 9870/49. Class 39 (i). A travelling-wave tube comprises a length of coaxial transmission line having a plurality of apertured discs 3 extending outwardly, from the centre conductor 2 of the line to leave an annular gap between them and the outer conductor 1; the apertures in the discs are aligned to provide a plurality of electron beam paths parallel to the axis of the line. The apertures in each disc are preferably located close to its periphery and may interrupt the periphery provided that a substantial fraction of the periphery remains intact. The electron guns 22, Fig. 2, for the electron beams are mounted on a member secured to the outer conductor 8 of an input coaxial line 8, 10. A first anode 23 common to all the electron guns is also mounted on the conductor 8, while the end disc 6 of the disc-loaded coaxial line serves as the final anode of the electron gun. The end plate 14 supporting an output coaxial line 9, 11 is provided with recesses 25 to serve as collectors for the electron beams.
