Abstract

1,084,015. X-ray tubes; cathode-ray tubes. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. May 17, 1965 [May 29, 1964], No. 22425/64. Heading H1D. A flash X-ray tube comprises an anode 8 made of thin electrically conducting material capable of transmitting a substantial proportion of electrons striking the material, and a target 10 located at a distance behind the anode, the space between the anode and target being adapted to contain gas at a pressure sufficiently above that in the accelerating gap to provide magnetic self-focusing of the transmitted electrons traversing the space. The gas in the space between the anode and the target is air at a pressure of 0À2-10 mm. Hg., and the anode may be formed of a disc of aluminium foil 0À001-0À002 inch thick. The tube envelope is built up of alternate rings of insulator 3 and metal plates 4. A focusing coil 15 is provided to focus the beam to a point on the target. Ducts 12, 13 are provided to enable the working pressures to be maintained. In an embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a backwardly extending tube is sealed to the plate 1 to enable the target to be located further from the anode.
