Abstract

515,395. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 27, 1938, No. 19565/39. Convention date, May 29, 1937. Divided out of 515,229. [Class 39 (i)] In an oscillator tube for wave generating or amplifying wherein a concentrated beam of electrons in its passage through the tube supplies energy to an associated, tuned, output circuit by the retarding effect produced by means of an electrode or electrodes on the electrons, the electrode or electrodes are elongated and the beam is repeatedly effective thereon. In one form, a beam from the gun G, Fig. 2, is projected through a conical spiral A which forms, with members O, a tuned circuit a concentrating coil M is provided and the mid-point of the tuned circuit is connected to the electrode C and to the potential source S. In another form, two pairs of plates R<1>, R<2>, Fig. 3, are connected to Lecher wires O, and the beam is suitably directed by deflecting plates D to pass through the plates R<1>, R<2> as shown in dotted lines, the beam being reflected by negative plates P<1>, P<2>. The beam may be focussed by the field between each reflecting electrode and the electrodes R<1>, R<2>. Specification 488,094: is referred to.
