Abstract

477,672. Discharge apparatus. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. April 8, 1937, No. 10058. Convention date, April 8, 1936. Addition to 477,668. [Class 39 (i)] In a modification of the arrangements described in the parent Specification, in which a transversely deflected electron beam delivers up its energy of deflection to a second transverse field by electrostatic influence, the deflecting plates P1, P2, themselves provide the second field, the beam being bent in a closed path so as to return between the plates. A magnetic field H may be employed to bend the beam in a circle, or electrostatic lenses or 'prisms may be employed. By suitably choosing the length of the path a negative impedance is produced between the plates P1, P2, so that oscillations are generated in the tuned circuit B joining the plates. The beam is generated by cathode K and anode A1, and is finally collected on electrode A2. A magnetic screen E prevents the effect of the magnetic field H from extending to the initial and final portions of the path. The beam may travel in a closed path more than once ; the anode A2 may then be an apertured diaphragm surrounding the path of the beam. The plates P1, P2 may be split up into a number of pairs in the direction of the beam and cross-connected to reduce the effect of electron transit time at very high frequencies.
