Abstract

Cold rolled high-strength alloy steel articles having improved p toughness and ductability contain 15.5-20 per cent. manganese, between 3 and less than 18 of chromium, and the remainder iron, i.e. pure iron, or containing also 0.01-1 per cent., preferably 0.35, of carbon, up to 0.15 of nitrogen, up to 0.2 of phosphorus, up to 0.1 of sulphur and up to 1 of silicon. Preferably the alloy contains 16-18 of manganese and 3-10 of chromium, a particular example containing 17 of manganese and 6 of chromium. The cold rolled articles may be heated to 100-250 DEG C. for 0.5-100 hours. Specifications 366,326 and 473,201 are referred to.
