Abstract
A steel having high resistance to wear at raised temperatures has the following composition:-C greater than 1.0 per cent. but not more than 2.5 per cent. Cr 8.0-13.0 per cent., W less than 24.0 per cent., together with Mo and V each in proportions at least 1.0 per cent., and in which the total content of W, Mo and V exceeds the Cr content and Mo and V together are less than the W content. The remainder is Fe and impurities. The C content is preferably adjusted according to the formula C=0.1 Cr+0.2 V. The steels may also contain one or more of Co up to 20.0 per cent., Ta up to 2.0 per cent. and Ti up to 1.0 per cent.
