Abstract

An alloy steel comprises C 0.05-0.5 per cent, Mn 0.05-1 per cent, Si 0.05-1 per cent, Cr 9-15 per cent, Ni 0.6.9 per cent, Co 0-7 per cent, Mo 0.2-1.2 per cent, V 0.2-2 per cent, Nb 0.07-1.5 per cent, Ta 0-1.45 per cent, W 0-1 per cent, the remainder being Fe and usual impurities, Ni and Co together being 1-7 per cent and Nb and Ta together not exceeding 1.5 per cent. The alloy steel may be heated at 900-1250 DEG C., quenched in oil, air or water and tempered at 600-850 DEG C. Specification 638,110 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, the Ni content may be up to 7 per cent.
