Abstract
Cold-rolled alloy iron or steel articles contain 15.5 to 20 per cent. of manganese, nickel or copper or both, the nickel between 0.25 and 4.5, preferably 1-2.5, and copper 0.25-2.5, preferably 0.5-1.75 and if desired, chromium 0.25-7.0 and the remainder iron, i.e. pure iron or containing 0.01-1.0, preferably less than 0.35 of carbon, up to 0.15 of nitrogen, up to 0.2 of phosphorus, up to 0.05 of sulphur and up to 1.0 of silicon. Preferably the article contains 16-18 per cent. of manganese and 0.5-1.25 of copper with or without 1-4 of chromium, preferably 3 per cent., in a particular example containing 16 of manganese, 1.5 of nickel and 0.75 of copper. The cold-rolled articles may be heated at 100-250 DEG C. for 1/2 -100 hours. Specifications 124,817, 125,157, [both in Class 72], 463,252 and 473,201 are referred to.
