Abstract
584,164. Rotary brushes. PRESTWARE, Ltd., SALTER, E., and FREEMAN, P. Dec. 5, 1944, No. 24308. [Class 19] A rotary brush is made from circular elements 1, 8 and 11, the diameter of which decreases from the centre to the ends of the brush, having mating faces each formed with a number of semicylindrical cavities 2 extending inwards to form bristle sockets when the elements are brought into contact. Each cavity has a transverse rib 3, which engages the bristle tuft 4, and each inner element 1 has a shoulder 7 on its outer face which mates with the next element 8, the inner face of which has the same outer diameter as the shoulder 7. These faces, too, are formed with bristle sockets. The intermediate elements 8 are also shouldered on their outer faces 10 and these mate with the inner faces of the outermost elements 11 ; bristle sockets are formed around this junction also. The elements are secured together by axial bolts, and the whole is mounted on a shaft 16 with which flanges on the elements 11 contact. The bristle sockets may be formed as continuous channels in which the bristles are wired or anchored by fabric strips.
