Abstract
620,151. Rubber brushes; forms of bristle; brush manufacture. EMSA-WORKS & HERBERT FOOT APPLIANCE, Ltd., and BROWN, J. W. May 22, 1946, No. 15488. [Class 19] A stippling brush is formed in one piece of rubber and comprises a solid flat stock 1, having bristles 3 integral therewith on one face thereof, spaced lugs 4 integral therewith on the opposite face thereof and a bar-shaped handle 2 supported by said lugs. The bristles preferably consist of flat blades of rectangular cross-section arranged in rows, each bristle being substantially at right angles to adjacent bristles in the same or adjacent rows or the adjacent bristles may be at any angle to one another. Further, the bristles may taper towards their tips (as shown) or may be of a triangular or circular cross section. The brush is preferably made by moulding and vulcanizing rubber in a mould with its interior shaped to form the handle, lugs and stock, the wall of the mould forming the undersurface of the stock being provided with slots into which the unvulcanized rubber is extruded during the vulcanizing process to form the bristles integral with the stock. The whole brush is preferably made from rubber having petrol-resisting qualities.
