Abstract
692,264. Paint brushes; bristles fixing. HOLLINS BRUSH CO., Ltd., and EDWARDS, W. April 6, 1951 [May 19, 1950], No. 12569/50. Class 19. A flat paint brush of the kind having a wedge 6 embedded in the bristles, the wedge being of a plastic material, bonded fibre, steel or other material which will withstand a vulcanizing temperature, is manufactured by positioning the bristles and wedge in the ferrule 5 with the root ends projecting therefrom, treating the root ends and wedge with a rubber solution, then positioning the treated portion in the ferrule (Fig. 2) and vulcanizing the whole to make the material in the ferrule into a hard mass 7, drilling the ferrule and vulcanized mass to form holes through the wedge and inserting nails 8 from one side and riveting the projecting ends of the nails by spinning and thus eliminating the usual turning over of these ends by forming heads 9. A brush handle 10 is then inserted in the ferrule and secured by pins 11.
