Abstract

581,207. Insulating panels. BALLAMY, L. M., and SHEEPSHANKS, R. H. March 11, 1944, Nos. 4567 and 7190. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] A heat-insulating panel for walls, roofs, refrigerators &c. comprises spaced sheets 45, 47 connected along at least one edge by a member consisting of metal elements 19, 20 and an intermediate rubber or other insulating element 27. The space between the sheets 45, 47, which may be metal, wall-board or synthetic resin, is partly or completely filled with quilted kapok fibre 54. As shown the elements 19, 20 are of channel form and two of their side limbs are separated by the element 27. In a modification, the elements of channel form have outwardly extending flanges by which they are attached to the spaced sheets, the insulating element separating the bottoms of the channels. In further forms, the metal elements are of L section facing inwardly to or outwardly from the kapok. The spaced sheets are attached to the metal elements by welding, riveting, press-studs or screws. The abutting faces of the insulating elements of adjacent panels may be provided with corresponding projections and recesses. In the roof panel 14 the sheet 45 is extended to provide an overhang 52 to co-operate with a gutter 53. The outer metal sheet of a wall slab may be extended downwards to provide a dovetail projection to engage with a foundation.
