[Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] Sheets, slabs or panels 2 forming a ceiling, partition or wall lining are nailed or screwed to wooden strips 17 secured to sheet metal supporting battens 3 which present longitudinal shoulders 16 for the support of bearer strips each comprising a sheet metal casing 5 and a wooden strip 1 to which the sheets 2 are likewise secured by nails or screws Tongues 4 may be integral with the wall 8 of the casing 5 or may be secured thereto by welding or riveting, and the wall 8 may be formed with a longitudinal .stiffening rib. The casing 5 may be dispensed with, in which case the tongues 4 are attached directly to the wooden _strip 7. The battens 3 may be of various sections, e.g., the web 14 may be relatively short and the shoulders 16 relatively near the head 20, in which case the wooden strip 17 occupies only part of the space beneath the shoulders. The bottom of the said space may be completely open, exposing the whole of the bottom of the strip 17 to contact with the sheets 2, the strip then being nailed to the metal casing, or the bottom may be partly closed leaving a gap 18 for the nails. The side walls of the said space may be dispensed with, the batten 3 then having only a flat base for nailing to the strip 17. The head 20, which is secured by clips or the like to a main structural member, may be of circular, triangular or rectangular section.
