Abstract
581,034. Electrodeposition of tin. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 13, 1944, No. 13399. Convention date, July 13, 1943. [Class 41] An electrolyte for the deposition of tin consists of a solution of a stannous salt or compound and the ferrocyanide or ferricyanide of an alkali metal or ammonium. The ferrocyanide or ferricyanide may be used with known electrolytes in which the tin is present as the chloride, sulphate, fluoride, - phenol sulphonate or other salt of sulphonic acids together with hydrochloric, sulphuric or hydrofluoric acid. In an example the electrolyte comprises stannous chloride, sodium fluoride, bifluoride and chloride, hydrochloric acid, a polyethylene oxide having a molecular weight about 1,500, Schaeffer's salt and potassium ferricyanide. 75 grams of stannous chlordie are used per litre and 0.25 gram of the ferricyanide. The pH value is between 1.5 and 5. In another example 68 grams of stannous sulphate are dissolved in each litre of water together with sodium fluoride, bifluoride and sulphate, beta naphthol ethylene oxide and 1 gram of potassium ferrocyanide. The pH value is 2. A dry composition to be dissolved in water may consist of 66 per cent. stannous chloride, 33.5 per cent. sodium fluoride and 0.5 per cent. potassium ferricyanide. When the solution is made up the pH value is adjusted to 2.5 with hydrochloric acid. Specification 581,036 is referred to.
