Abstract

569,447. Electrodeposition of tin. METAL & THERMIT CORPORATION. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 16649. Convention date, March 19. Drawings to Specification. [Class 41] [Also in Group III] Hydrous tin oxide (stannic) in the form of a paste or powder is employed to replenish the tin content of a potassium stannate-potassium hydroxide bath. Insoluble or both soluble and insoluble anodes may be employed. The hydrous tin oxide may be prepared by adding NaHCO3 or CO2 gas to an aqueous solution of sodium stannate, filtering . the precipitate, washing, treating with HCl or H2SO4 until neutral or slightly acid, and again washing. Two examples are given, using, respectively, insoluble (iron) and soluble anodes, the anode area in the latter example being twice the cathode area, the cathode current density in both cases being 125 amps./ft.<2> and the temperature 90‹ C. Other figures are also given.
