Abstract

1,226,883. Modifying metallic surfaces. DIVERSEY DEVELOPMENT Ltd. April 5, 1968 [May 8, 1967], No.54299/68. Divided out of 1, 226, 882. Heading C7U. A low-expansion alloy including Ni, Ni-Fe, Fe-Co, and Ni-Fe-Co is pre-treated e.g. prior to a finishing process as described in Specification 1, 226, 882 by contacting with an aequeous phosphoric acid solution followed by contacting with an aequeous alkaline solution containing a complex phosphate. The phospheric acid solution may be a 50% by weight solution of (% by weight): - phospheric acid 25, xylene sulphonic acid 20, nonylphenol-ethylene oxide condensate 2, water 53. The complex phosphate solution may comprise 8 ozs/1 gal of the following composition (% by weight) tetrasodium pysophosphate 45À00, sodium tripolyphosphate 13À50, sodium carbonate 12À00, sodium bicarbonate 25À00, sodium lignin sulphate 2À50, and octylphenoxy poly-(ethyleneoxy), ethadol 2À00. The surfactant used may be those described in Specification 1, 226, 882 or cationic aliphatic, analiphatic and heterocyclic amines, non-ionic and anionic aliphatic acid amines, non-ionic aliphatic acid partial esters of polyhydric alcohols and their polyoxyethylene ethers, anionic aliphatic sulphates, anionic aliphatic esters of sulphonated aliphatic acids, anionic aliphatic aryl polyether sulphonates, and anionic aliphatic posphates.
