Abstract

547,592. Pickling metals. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., and BAVISTER, H. S. Aug. 2, 1941, No. 9870. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVI and III] For the purpose of precipitating waterhardening salts, a small proportion of sodium or potassium oxalate is added to an aqueous alkaline pickling bath of sodium or potassium hydroxides, carbonates, phosphates, or metasilicates. The oxalate is of the order of 3 per cent by weight of the alkali content. A small quantity of powdered glue (about 30 per cent. by weight of the oxalate) may also be added.
