Abstract

1,052,028. Electro-depositing bright nickel. JOHN PRESTON & CO. (CHEMICALS) Ltd. Sept.11, 1964 [Sept.13, 1963], No.36167/63. Heading C7B. Bright nickel is electro-deposited from an aqueous acid solution containing at least one nickel salt, and from 0À00156 to 0À3 g/1 of the reaction product of an acetylenic alcohol with sodium perborate, the said acetylentic alcohol having the general formula where M 1 is a hydroxyl, hydroxymethyl or hydroxyethyl radical, M 2 is a hydrogen or methyl radical and M 3 is a methyl, hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, methoxymethyl, diethylaminomethyl, morpholinomethyl or hydroxypropyne radical. The acetylenic alcohol may be 2-butyne- 1:4-diol, and the solution may also contain 0À1 to 1À0 g/1 of 2-propene-1-sulphonic acid, between 50 g/1 and saturation of boric acid, and 0À5 to 80 g/1 of a water soluble sulpho-oxygen compound selected from the group consisting of mononuclear and binuclear aromatic sulphonic acids; mononuclear aromatic sulphinic acids; heterocyclic sulphonic acids; alkali metal, ammonium, magnesium and nickel salts of said acids; and mononuclear aromatic sulphonamides and imides or salts of such amides or imides.
