Abstract

1305897 Nickel electroplating ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 9 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 7040/69 Heading C7B An aqueous electrolyte for nickel plating comprises (a) at least 30 g/l of a nickel-II salt, (b) 0À1-1À0 g/l of a mixture of acetylenic compounds including an α-hydroxy-acetylenic compound and an alkylene oxide condensation product of an hydroxy-acetylenic compound and an alkylene oxide condensation product of a hydroxyacetylenic compound in a weight ratio of condensation products to α-hydroxy-acetylenic compound of from 1À5:1 to 7:1, and (c) 1-5 g/l of saccharin or a substituted saccharin, i.e. ocarboxybenzsulphimide containing a nuclear substituent, e.g. an alkyl-, halo- or sulphosubstituent. The α-hydroxyacetylene compound may have the formula R 1 CHOH C = CR 2 where R 1 and R 2 represent hydrogen or an alkyl, alkenyl or alkynol group of 1-4 carbon atoms, and which may contain an amino or hydroxyl substituent. Examples listed include 2-butyn- 1, 4-diol; 4-methoxy-2-butyn-1-ol; 4 diethylamino-2-butyn-1-ol; and 2,4-hexadiyn-1, 6-diol. The alkalene oxide may be ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, epichlorohydrin or epibromohydrin. A further sulpho-oxygen compound such as naphthalene 1,3,6-trisulphonic acid, sodium allyl sulphonate, sodium benzene sulphonate, benzene sulphonamide or p-toluenesulphonamide may also be present in the bath. The bath may be of the Watt's type, high-chloride type or sulphamate type.
