Abstract

A solid cleansing-composition, for use in the form of an aqueous solution, contains an alkali metal silicate and an amino-acid, or salt thereof, which contains three carboxylic groups attached to the N atom. Suitable amino-acids are trimethylamine - a - a <1> - a <11>-tri - carboxylic acid and similar acids obtained by reacting excess of chloracetic, or chlorpropionic acid with hydrazine or hydroxylamine. A mixture of 4 to 5 per cent of such an amino-acid, or its sodium salt, with sodium silicate when dissolved in hard water prevents the precipitation of lime salts.
