Abstract

An aqueous gastric antacid preparation comprises aluminium hydroxide and from 0.5 to 10 per cent by weight of mannitol or sorbitol as a stabilizing agent to prevent thickening and hardening, the percentage of said sorbitol or mannitol being less than the percentage of aluminium hydroxide. Sodium hypochlorate solution may be added to the preparation and various other antacids, flavouring, sweetening and preserving agents e.g. sodium benzoate, saccharin and oil of peppermint may also be present. A fraction of the water of the preparation may be replaced by glycerine. Specification 542,317 is referred to.
