Abstract
A composition used for treating skin maladies, e.g. acne and seborrheic dermatitis, comprises fibrous boehmite, sodium thiosulphate, resorcinol, salicylic acid, and alcohol in specified proportions by weight and in the form of a thixotropic aqueous mixture having a ph of 4 to 6.5. The composition may contain menthol and/or camphor and a chelating agent, e.g. sodium EDTA. The composition us stated to be compatible with conventional medicaments used in the treatment of acne, of which several examples are given. Aluminium chloride and aluminium potassium sulphate may also be added to the composition. The alcohol may be an alkanol of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkylene glycol of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or mixture thereof. The fibrous boehmite used is that described in U.S.A.-Specification 2,915,475.
