Abstract
579,201. Alkali aluminium fluorides. ANDREWS, W., and MUREX WELDING PROCESSES, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1944, No. 2689. [Class 1 (iii)] [Also in Groups II and XXII] A colloidal mixed fluoride of aluminium and an alkali fluoride for use as a coating for welding rods is produced by the double decomposition of an alkali fluoride and aluminium chloride in the presence of water. In the production of the sodium salt, aluminium chloride containing 40-50 per cent, of water of crystallisation is mixed with sodium fluoride in a rotary mixing machine. After reaction any acid present is neutralized by the gradual addition of sodium hydroxide, 15-30 minutes being allowed for gradual neutralization to take place after each addition.
