Abstract

579,208. Combing-machines. LUNN, L. April 1, 1944, No. 6111. [Class 120 (i)] In a Heilmann combing machine, the cam P, operating the bracket carrying the top nipper knife, is formed with a portion p, p<1> of somewhat less than half its circumference, for holding the nippers closed, followed by a sharply eccentric portion p<1>, p<3>, then again by a portion p <3>, p<4> of flatter curvature, slightly raised at p<6> and followed again by a sharply eccentric portion p<4>, p. The point p3 corresponds to the commencement of the feed motion of the fibres and also the point at which the nipper knife begins to open, while the point p <5> represents where it is fully opened and the point p<4> where it is finally closed. The angular distance p<5>, p<6> is made relatively large to ensure that the knife is opened long enough to allow the tail end fibres to pass through the top comb for efficient combing. The bowl A and cam groove P are preferably smaller than in normal construction. Specification 474,456 is referred to.
