Abstract
474,456. Combing-machines. MALTA MILL CO., Ltd., and LUNN, L. May 8, 1936, No. 12985. [Class 120 (i)] In a Heilmann combing-machine the nipper cam N, Figs. 2 and 4, is formed with the usual concentric face n-n extending over half the surface and with an eccentric portion having a central part n<3> formed concave or with a reentering curve to allow the runner A to approach nearer the centre n<1> of the cam and so increase the angular movement of the lever B, and bracket D. With the nippers open, Fig. 2, there is a larger space between the nipper knife d and the cushion plate e thus allowing a clear action between the feed rollers G the detaching rollers H and segment k during the operation of drawing the fibres through the top comb F. When the nippers are closed, Fig. 4, the increased angular movement of the swing frame E will bring the lower edge of the cushion plate e nearer to the comb cylinder and in consequence the teeth of the top comb F are lengthened. More rows of needles can be employed on the comb cylinder K, e.g. the usual seventeen rows may be increased to twenty.
