Abstract
579,085. Door latches. LACRINOID PRODUCTS, Ltd., and ADIE, G. M. April 19, 1944, No. 7239. [Class 44] A door latch is operated by a shaft 4 rotatably mounted in a bearing in a rose plate 1 and having a shoulder 6 which limits its axial movement in one direction and movement in another direction movement in the other direction being limited by the handle 9 when it is secured to the shaft. The latch spindle 11 enters a recess in the shaft 4 which may be reinforced by metal 12. The handle 9 may engage a shoulder on the shaft 4. A construction is shown in which the latch spindle is formed integral with the shaft 4. In a further construction the annular surface 6 is formed by a metal sleeve screwed on the shaft 4 and the shaft 4 is formed of two diameters where it engages in the stem 8. In Fig. 4, the rose 1 is provided with a boss 18 carrying in a bore 19 the shaft 4 which is screw-threaded to a metal sleeve 22 carried in the bore 20. The shaft 4 and the knob 9 are connected by a fluted sleeve 24. In Fig. 6 segmental projections 26 for limiting the rotational movement of the shaft 4 also limit the axial movement in one direction. A return spring 30 for the handle is provided. In a modification of this construction the bore 20 is carried to the outside of the boss 18 and in a further modification the segmental projections 26 are formed on a separate sleeve screwed to the shaft 4.
