476,709. Attaching knobs and handles to spindles. BURTON, G. E. Oct. 1, 1936, No. 26621. [Class 44] A door knob, attached to a spindle by rollers located in a spring-loaded slidable supporting device jamming between the spindle and the inclined faces of a sleeve fixed to the knob, has the rear portion of the supporting device bored tangentially to form a housing for the rollers which are confined against endwise movement by the shape of the sleeve. The knob a has fixed to it a sleeve b in which is slidably mounted a roller supporting device c. This device c is bored tangentially at two points to form cylindrical housings c<1> into which the rollers e can be slipped before assembly. The rollers e rotate freely and project slightly into the bore c<2> beyond the outer periphery of the device c so as to contact with the square spindle f and the flats b' formed on the conical portion of the sleeve b.. These flats locate the rollers in the supporting device and prevent relative rotation between said device and the sleeve. The releasing ring g may be used to compress spring d to release the knob or to positively move the rollers so as to cause them to j jam more tightly. A pin c<5> co-operating with a slot b<6> may be used to locate the supporting device with respect to the sleeve.
