Abstract
487,177. Thermometers. ZEAL, H. H. June 19, 1937, Nos. 17157 and 26619. [Class 97 (iii)] A handle 11 is hinged to a thermometer, e.g. a brewer's thermometer, by a joint one part 23 of which is formed with faces 1, 2 at right-angles to one another and the other part 15 of which includes a spring urged plunger 19 co-operating with the faces 1, 2, to hold the thermometer in axial alignment with, or at right-angles to, the handle 11. The spring- influenced plunger 19 may be retracted by an operating knob before moving the thermometer which is fixed in the threaded socket 26. The handle 11 may be rotatably mounted in the part 15 by means of a spigot 14 extending within a socket on the part 15 and retained therein by a tangential screw (not shown), engaging a circumferential groove 16 in the spigot. Alternatively ball bearings may be provided. The arrangement enables the mercury column in maximum thermometers to be readily reset by centrifugal force.
