Abstract
552,385. Bearings. JACK & HEINTZ, Inc. Aug. 27, 1942, No. 12091. Convention date, Jan. 10. [Class 12 (i)] A bearing assembly comprises a hollow shaft 9 with a fixed bearing race 4 at one end and a spring- pressed sliding race 6 at the other end, a tension tierod 10 passing through the shaft 9 and being secured to means engaging the end races. At one end, the rod 10 carries a plate 11 pinned to the bearing cap 13 of the casing wall 1 and at the other end it is threaded into a plate 17 pressing against the race 6 which slides within a sleeve 21 adjustably secured in the casing wall 2. A spring 20 engages a flange 24 on the sleeve 21 and a sliding member 26 pressing on the race 6. One rotatable member 27 is carried by the shaft 9 whilst the other rotatable member comprising the parts 28 .. 30 is carried on the sleeve 21. The bearing clearances are thus maintained under extreme temperature variations.
