Abstract

521,506. Pencil-holders. BINA & BARREY, Ltd., and BARREY, F. F. Nov. 17, 1938, No. 33437. [Class 146 (iii)] In a pencil holder having a screw-projecting lead-carrier 1, the spiral 3 is not secured to any other part of the holder but is held in slight compression between abutments 4, 6a the abutment 6a being so formed that normally, when the spiral presses against it, it holds the spiral against rotation with the lead-carrier, while upon the lead-carrier reaching the end of its travel adjacent this abutment, the spiral is further compressed, so that it is disengaged from the abutment and is free to rotate with the lead-carrier, whereas the other abutment 4 is plain, and on the leadcarrier 1 reaching the end of its travel adjacent this abutment, it lifts the end of the spiral and passes freely thereunder. The abutment 6a is formed by a slightly tapered constriction in a tube 6 surrounding the spiral and having at one end screw-threaded engagement with the casing 7. A member 8 limits the upward movement of the lead-carrier 1, and is formed with a square socket in which engages a member 9 carrying a cap 10. The usual slotted tube 2 is secured to the member 8 whereby rotation of the member 9 causes rotation of the tube relative to the spiral 3.
