Abstract

578,704. Cable and wire terminals. ROGOFF, J. Feb. 19, 1944, No. 3120. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A terminal connector comprises a tubular body 40 flattened and work-hardened to form a double-walled, eye-shaped terminal plate 11, of a thickness substantially equal to a single thickness of the tubular body wall. The core of a cable 19 is secured therein by an indentation 18 formed in the body by any suitable tool. The connector may have a closed end 13a, Fig. 8, and may be formed with a shroud 16a to accommodate various diameters of insulation and having a serrated inner surface if desired. The connector is made on progressive die equipment from a thick-walled tube of metal 10, Fig. 15, e.g. soft copper or aluminium annealed to a temper approximately “ hard, one end being swaged to form the terminal plate 11, Fig. 17 ; if the open-end type is required, a notch 14, Fig. 18, is cut in the tube before swaging the end. The shroud may be formed as in Fig. 20 by cutting diametrically opposite slots 15 in the end of the tube and widening them, or it may be formed without slots.
