Abstract

575,566. Cloth-proofing and drying apparatus. CHATFIELD, H. W., and JENSON & NICHOLSON, Ltd. March 27, 1944, No. 5634. [Class 34 (i)] In cloth-proofing and drying plant, the cloth from a roll 5 is first passed beneath a roller 7 in a bath 8 of dressing material and between doctor blades 9, 10 for removing excess dressing, and then over a roller 11 into a drying chamber 1 through which hot air circulates from an inlet 2 to an outlet 3. As shown, the cloth enters at one end of the drying chamber through an opening. 12 and travels to the opposite end where it is passed around a reversing roller 13 to a second reversing roller 15, disposed at about the middle of the chamber, and an exit opening 16, the arrangement being such that the distance between the entry point 12 and the first roller 13 is sufficient to ensure that the dressed cloth is dry enough to pass over said roller without damage. The disposition and diameter of the reversing rollers and the tension of the cloth are, moreover, adapted to be such that one span of cloth is prevented from contacting, through sagging, with the span below. Intermediate cloth supporting rollers 14, 18, 19 may be provided, and the hot air inlet 2 is preferably formed with a baffle 4 to project the entering air well into the drying chamber before rising. After leaving the drying chamber the cloth may pass downwardly to a second dressing bath 20 and between further doctor blades 21, 22, and then back through the said chamber on reversing rollers 25, 26 and supporting rollers, 32, 33, 34, 27 to an exit opening 28 and external cooling rollers 29, 30.
