953,893. Treating tobacco. W. QUESTER. Feb. 13, 1961 [Feb. 13, 1960], No. 5313/61. Heading A2C. Leaf tobacco is contacted directly with water and, optionally, steam in a first rotary drum 4 and, after temporary storage on a slowly moving belt 9, with moist air in a second rotary drum 14. Air discharge hoods 7, 15 and a suction pipe 13 are provided, and the members 9, 14 are heatinsulated. The belt 9 may run at one-third the speed of supply and discharge belts 1, 22. Conveyers may be interposed between the belt 9 and the drums 4, 14 respectively. Moist air is supplied at 21 to the drum 14 by a re-circulatory system 17 having water and steam nozzles 18, 19 and a drain 20.
